While it took a lot of work to make these, I have successfully cooked home made donuts that are purely amazing. It started out with making the dough last night, letting it refrigerate for 8 hours, rolling out and cutting donut shapes, waiting another hour, cooking them quickly, making the icing, and then finally enjoying my creation!
Don’t mind the giant deformed one lol. And there were a bunch more donut holes but we quickly devoured those so there’s not many pictured. Still have another dozen in the fridge so hopefully we find some people to give these away to before we die.
In other news, Miata inspection is going on right now so drum roll for the results!

There are a few top-notch donut places here in Indy, and I visited the only one close to me today after being sick the last few days , only to discover it’s still closed for the holidays.
I had gotten rather obsessed with the idea, so I went to a 2nd-tier bakery nearby as a consolation prize. Couldn’t even finish one of theirs after buying a half dozen .
The difference between an excellent donut and a typical donut is dramatic. I’m sure I’d have lo ved to have had some of yours fresh: thanks for making me even more regretful.

Here’s the recipe if you get ambitious: https://www.blessthismessplease.com/pioneer-womans-glazed-donuts/
The batter isn't particularly sweet which is great to me! Different from the comparable Krispy Kreme though for sure. The only odd cooking tool I had to buy was a candy thermometer but that should be useful for frying other things as well. Cut the donuts with a drinking glass and the holes using a water bottle cap. Otherwise it was pretty simple aside from the waiting times.

Sure, just need a flight to LA lol. All of oppo is invited for donuts! And then I feel like I have to take the Miata out and do donuts while eating the donuts.

Here’s a camping recipe I’ve always wanted to try, something I got from a page that appears to no longer exist. Biscuit on a stick.
INGREDIENTS
* 1 can biscuits
* squeeze butter
* 1 stick
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
PREPARATION
Roll out a biscuit with your hands so that it becomes elongated and about one inch thick at the center. Wrap it tightly around the end of your stick and pinching it as you go to insure that it stays on the stick while cooking. When done wrapping, the biscuit should take up about six inches of the stick. Heat over the campfire until golden brown. Pull it off the stick, pour butter down the hole left by the stick, and enjoy.
Variation sent in by Chris Moore. The way I like it is to pour butter around the outside of the biscuit and sprinkle sugar on it, then pour your favorite jelly inside. It is very messy, but very good.
Servings: 2 - 5

Ooooo I like this. Always thought canned biscuits would be good while camping but I just figured I'd have to use a grate or pan to cook them. Putting them on a stick and rotisserie them sounds far better!

I do have some leftover dough that I still need to form into donuts and cook soon. If you wanna trek to Woodland Hills, you’ve got some donuts!

I need to tag along on one of those trips haha
I wanted to go to CO a few more times but I’m thinking I might just try to save money instead of flying once or twice a month like last year.

Yeah I’d like to go out to CO too but flying is always a logistical plan adventure. Surprisingly can be cheaper than going to Mammoth though, especially once you factor in the free lodging in CO for you lol. Mammoth did just get like 5 feet of snow this week so thats gonna be excellent! Just let me know when you wanna plan something so we can get it on the books. I feel like we might forget to plan though and then summer will show up lol.

That is me every year. My main issue is time off. I know you normally leave T
hursday night but that isn’t really a good option for me. I have 150% of my PTO this year earmarked for various things. Not sure how I’m going to make that work but I don’t want to add any non-essential
days haha

I’m good with a short trip too. You’re already bying lift tickets so shorter is certainly better. Seeing as I did a day trip to Mammoth last year once and didnt hate it I am up for whatever . But yeah even with just one overnight, its plenty doable. Not being able to take days off certainly limits the Colorado options though! Flying affordably generally assumes flying on weekdays. Although it is close enough to cram in a Friday night flight and Monday morning flight in order to save on days without skipping sleep entirely lol.

That is what I normally do. SW has 2-3 evening flights (usually around 7, 8, 10PM) and a Monday morning flight that can get me to work before 10AM. They are normally the cheapest options, too. Although, the flights have been creeping up in price. It used to be $120 RT but now I’m lucky if I can find $160. I’m also running quite low on points haha

Seems like a good excuse to earn some more points then! That may be the best bet, just track some prices and figure out a weekend to head over there. I’ve never been so I really do want to get out there some time. Even if its just 1 day skiing and 1 day doing other shit, that would be fun to me. I need that kind of trip, my three week trip is gonna get all of the GO GO GO skiing out of me haha.

I used to do the GO GO GO skiing trips. Now I’m very content doing a day or two mixed with other shit. I’m not as good as I used to be but lately I’ve found that I don’t really care. Instead of trying to be a better skier 100% of the time, I’ve been skiing within my established limits and just focusing on enjoyment. I’m naturally a competitive person but I’ve found I’m just as happy doing an activity like skiing strictly for recreation. Getting old is weird lol

I prefer skiing over other sports specifically because there is nothing to win and no goal to accomplish. I am just shredding for some good excercise and fun. Every time I get really into soccer or ultimate frisbee, I just eventually get bummed about being not that great and how everyone else is better. I mean its cool and all if someone can do backflips off a cliff, but I dont feel like I had any less fun by not doing that lol.
But when every day of skiing is essentially free, I am much more motivated to ski more days! First and last chair every day is a stretch nowadays and I assume that is only going to get worse with age haha.

Oh for sure! And with the pass, you don’t really have to worry about first and last chair. Just go for when the conditions are best for the day, and go in early if you need to. No sense fighting people or battle dangerous conditions just to get an extra hour when you can always come back for little money.
